Summer Intervention Program

CDBA Ontario is pleased to announce that the Summer Intervention Program will be available for 2010.  This program is designed to assist families in hiring a Summer Intervenor who will work with their child who is deafblind.  Eligibility for the program is determined by the following four criteria:

  • A formal assessment has been conducted, identifying the child as functioning deafblind

  • A copy of the assessment is on file at the CDBA Ontario office or will be submitted with the application
  • The child is registered in a school program and is returning to school in September 2010
  • The child is living with his/her birth or adoptive parents

The basic program offers 210 hours of Intervention services (6 weeks of Intervention at 30 hours per week, plus 30 hours of paid training for the Summer Intervenor) and is available to individuals who meet the criteria outlined below.  For families who are current members of CDBA Ontario, the level of service is enhanced to 240 hours of Intervention services (7 weeks of Intervention at 30 hours per week, plus 30 hours of paid training for the Summer Intervenor).

Once approved to receive the funding, the child’s family is then responsible for locating and hiring a Summer Intervenor.   Summer Intervenors must also meet eligibility criteria, due to the regulations imposed by our funding source.  They must:

  • Be between 18-24 years of age.

  • Be eligible to work in Ontario with a valid Social Insurance Number

  • Not be related to the child who is deafblind

  • Be available to attend a paid training session conducted by CDBA Ontario, to be held July 2-4 at W. Ross Macdonald School in Brantford, ON

  • Complete an additional 12 hours of training, either at the child’s school or home or a combination of both

If you would like more information about the Summer Intervention program, please contact Sue Hall, Director of Training & Consultation, at 519-759-0520 ext. 30, or toll-free at 1-877-760-7439 ext. 30, or by email at shall@cdbaontario.com.  To apply for the program, please complete the application form and submit it to the CDBA Ontario office.  The application form can be submitted by e-mail, mail or fax.
