 What is an intervenor?

    expectations of an Intervenor

 

        This position follows CDBA's principles and philosophy of Intervention to providing on-going Intervention

        to consumers who are deafblind in their home and community environments.

 

    Main Responsibilities

 

    •    Provide a level of Intervention that ensures the consumer is successful in all aspects of daily living skills

          including personal hygiene, meal preparation, house cleaning, etc.

    •    Record dispensed medications and maintain medical records.

    •    Provide input as a team member into developing goals and objectives of the consumer's program plan, and

          provide feedback on consumer progress.

    •    Adhere to all health and safety requirements and make recommendations on areas requiring change.

    •    Follow established procedures and protocols to ensure documents and records are completed and

          maintained.

 

    Qualifications

 

        Essential

  • High school graduation, plus some post-secondary education.

  • Demonstrated awareness of verbal and non-verbal communication.

  • Ability to deal with challenging behaviours of others.

  • Promotes a sense of self-worth in others.

  • Understanding of health and safety.

  • Ability to quickly learn new techniques, processes, etc.

  • Accepts responsibility for his/her role in a team.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Demonstrated integrity and ethical behaviour.

        Desirable

  • Graduation in a college diploma or certificate or university degree with courses related to Intervention.

  • Experience with a variety of communication techniques specific to the needs of the deafblind.

  • Knowledge of the Intervention and deafblind field.

        Other

  • Able to work overtime at short notice in an emergency situation.

  • May work in a variety of settings including the client's home.

  • Availability and flexibility to work a variety of shifts.

 

   TYPES OF POSITIONS                                                                                                                                                  

    CDBA Ontario Chapter has year-round adult programs that require both full and part-time Intervenors, as well as

    the Summer Experience Program in which families of children who are deafblind hire summer students to work

    one-on-one with their children.

 

    *Please note that CDBA Ontario Chapter is not responsible for hiring Summer Experience Workers; we simply

      receive resumes of students interested in working on this program, and then provide families who have

      applied a list of resumes from their local area.*
